Privacy policy
What Secret Rides keeps about you, why, how long for, and what you can do about it. In plain words, because it’s your riding.
Who we are
Secret Rides is run by Green-Data Ltd. If you have a question about your data, or want something done that you can’t do in the app, email privacy@secretrides.app.
Who Secret Rides is for
- Riders who are 16 or over. You say so with a tick when you sign up. We don’t check ID. If we find an account belongs to someone under 16, we close it, and it’s deleted.
- Secret Rides isn’t offered in the EU or the UK for now.
This website
The beta sign-up list and the Contact us form are the only things on this website that keep anything about you.
- Beta sign-up list
- Your full name, email, phone (iPhone or Android), country and why you want to test. Your first name, phone, country and comment are shown on the public list. Your email and surname are never shown. Your email is only used to send your beta invite. To be taken off the list, email privacy@secretrides.app from the address you signed up with.
- Contact us
- Your name, email and message, so Doug can reply. Only Doug sees them.
What we keep, and why
Everything here is yours, and stays until you delete it. The app never deletes any of it by itself.
- Your rides and their tracks
- So you can see them, add them up into stats and totals, and plan new trips from them.
- Trips and plans
- The routes, stages and places to sleep you plan, so they’re there when you ride them.
- Bikes and gear
- What you ride and carry, for weights, wear and the packing lists.
- Riders’ spots and photos
- Places you mark. Yours show to you everywhere. Other riders’ show only near a trip you haven’t finished, which keeps quiet spots quiet.
- Followers, mates and stars
- Who follows you, the mates’ rides you pin, and the rides you star.
- Cheers on rides
- So you and the rider can see them.
- Your settings
- So the app works the way you set it, on every phone you use.
- Feedback you send Doug
- Your note, with the app’s build, your device and the screen you were on, and Doug’s replies. Only you and Doug see it.
Live tracking
While you ride with tracking on, your phone sends your position every few seconds so your followers can watch live. Those live positions are deleted 30 days after the ride. Your saved ride keeps its own track, so you lose nothing.
Heart rate, power and cadence
These come from your ride files and sensors, and count as health data. We only keep them if you say yes, in Profile › Your data. It’s off unless you turn it on. Turning it off removes them from every ride; the rides themselves stay. In Pack Mode, other riders only see your heart rate and power if you’ve said yes, and you follow each other.
Who else sees what
- Followers see your live link while you ride, and what you’ve chosen to make public.
- Riders near you in Pack Mode see your speed and distance, and heart rate and power only as above.
- Anyone with your public page link sees what you’ve chosen to show there. We count visits to it.
- People who chip in to your wishlist give their name, email and phone so you can thank them. They aren’t riders.
- Doug, who looks after Secret Rides, sees the feedback riders send.
Deleted by itself
These go on their own, on a timer. You lose nothing you use.
- Live positions: 30 days after the ride
- Your saved ride keeps its own track.
- Sign-in attempts: 30 days
- Records used to block password guessing.
- Old invite codes and password links: 30 days after they expire
- Visit counts on your public page: 90 days
- Only old visit counts go.
- Wishlist pledgers’ name, email and phone: 90 days after the wish is redeemed or closed
- The totals stay.
- Server logs: 14 days
- Nightly backups: 14 nights
- So anything you delete is gone from them within 14 days.
What you can do
- Download my data (Profile › Your data): one file of everything we hold about you. Rides and trip plans as GPX, the rest as files you can open and read.
- Delete my account (Profile › Your data): everything you keep goes and can’t be brought back. It’s done within 30 days, and gone from our backups 14 days after that. Trips you shared stay for the other riders, without you in them. Your followers stop getting your live links.
- Heart rate, power and cadence: turn keeping them on or off any time.
- Anything else, email privacy@secretrides.app.
When this changes
If we change what we keep or why, we’ll tell you in the app before it happens, and update the date at the top.
